Kadamba Smart Transit Card - All you need to know.

Updated: Apr 14

Overview:

Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) has officially introduced the "Smart Transit Card" service across all its routes. Initially, this card was only applicable for Smart City Buses in Panaji. It offers significant benefits to both commuters and KTCL. This service is facilitated by Iteration Technologies.

Features:

The card utilizes NFC (Near-Field Communication), enabling usage by simply tapping it on the ETM (Electronic Ticketing Machine) held by the conductor on Local Buses or on the Card reader in Smart City Buses. It can be recharged online through the website or via the ETM carried by the conductor.

Regular Commuters get a 10% discount on every ticket purchased, While Students & Senior Citizens can avail 50% concession for the same. The card is presently available at NO CHARGE; however, an initial top-up of Rs 150 is required when applying for the card. This top-up amount can be utilized by the commuter once the card is received.

How to Apply:

  1. Go to https://cashless.ktcl.goa.gov.in

  2. Select the appropriate card user and fill in the details. Enter a Valid Government ID No. (Such as AADHAR, PAN, etc.).

  3. Attach a photograph and Student/Senior Citizen Proof (Such as Student ID/Senior Citizen Card) if applicable. Make sure the size of both is below 1MB.

  4. Make the payment for the top-up (Rs. 150) using any payment method.

  5. You will receive an SMS on your registered Mobile No. regarding the confirmation.

  6. Go to your respective KTCL Bus stand (which was selected during the application process) to collect your Smart Card within 24 Hours.

How to Use:

KTCL Local Buses (Including Mhaji Buses):

  1. Notify your destination to the conductor and that you will be using a Smart Transit Card for payment. Also mention for concession (As it has been noticed that even with a Student/Senior citizen card you can be charged full price if conductor has selected Full ticket option)

  2. Conductor will tap your card on the ETM and issue a valid ticket.

Panaji Smart City Buses:

  1. When entering, tap your card on the card reader fitted near the entry door.

  2. When Alighting once again tap your card on the card reader.

  3. The necessary adjustments will be made as per your journey and balance will be deducted.

Benefits:

  1. No hassle of carrying exact change.

  2. Flexibility of recharging online.

  3. Balance can be used anytime, No specific validity*.

  4. Can be used on any route (operated by KTCL) (Including Mhaji Bus).

  5. No mention if it can be used on Shuttle Buses, but as per my assumption it can be as the ticketing personnel use a ETM similar to that of conductors.

  6. Can be used on both Non-EV and EV Buses.

Practical Experience:

I (Writer of this Article) had applied for a Smart Transit Card (Student). The card did not arrive as mentioned in 24 Hours. It took about 3 Days. The staff at the counter and helpline is very polite and helpful. Be sure to contact them if such instances happen to you. They resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Using the Smart Transit Card is very easy, I just notify my destination and concession, the conductor taps my card and issues me a valid ticket. It is very convenient for me. I prefer it over the concession pass, since it does not have a fixed validity and can be used on any route. Also, can be used on both EV & Non-EV buses. This breaks the hard limitations on pass system which allows more freedom to the commuters.

As mentioned earlier do notify the conductor regarding concession as a conductor did charge a full ticket for me even when I was using a student Smart Transit Card. I don't blame him, as it looked like his first time doing it. Overall, my experience has been wonderful. The website is also good, only that when I check my balance it is still the same even after using the card, I have mailed KTCL regarding the same. Waiting for their response.

Final Verdict:

As a person using public transport for a while now, I feel this is a wonderful thing. By the way you can also pay with UPI in KTCL (Including Mhaji Buses), this is a lesser-known fact. I would recommend regular commuters to opt-in for this card. It has quite less commitment compared to the Pass System. Although Students/Senior Citizens won't get the same concession levels as available in pass system, The difference is only about 10%.

This card is very useful for students and daily commuters. If anyone wishes to try this card, please do it now, As the card is FREE now but won't be forever. That's all.

*As per the terms and conditions the card does have a validity, although it is not mentioned anywhere on the card.
