How to apply for BEST Student Pass on Chalo App

Overview:

The Brihanmumbai Electricity and Transport (BEST) Undertaking runs about 2300 to 2500 buses on a daily basis serving about 25 Lakh (2.5 million) passengers. A majority of its users includes Students who use the service to travel to and from their Educational Institutes.

If a student opts for the Subsidized Student Pass issued by BEST, they can save a lot on travel costs, which add up really quickly. So let me tell you each and every step to get this pass, using the well-known Chalo App.

Eligibility:

The Eligibility Criteria is as follows:

Education Level - School, College or Diploma
Age - Up to 26 Years

Pass Plans:

AC	360	180 Days	₹ 1,200

Passes are valid till 31st May of the Academic Year
AC Passes can be utilized on non-AC Buses as well.
The maximum fare allowed per trip is ₹65.
This pass cannot be used on the Chalo Bus (Premium Shuttle buses), Airport Bus, Heritage and Tourist Buses.

Steps to Apply:

Download the Chalo App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and sign up using your phone number.
Provide all the basic details during sign up.
Before proceeding you will need a Physical Copy of the Student Concession form issued by BEST. You can get this form from your college (Reception/Stationery) or from any major BEST Depot near you.
Fill your details in the form and get it signed by the Principal or Head of your institute along with the Institute's official stamp.
In the Chalo App, click on the "BEST Bus" menu.
Select "See All Passes".
Select "Student Pass".
Choose your preferred Pass.
Upload the following documents:
1. Passport size photograph
2. Student Concession form duly filled, signed and stamped
3. Date of Birth Proof (Aadhaar Card preferred)
Choose your Pass start date
Submit the application for verification.

You will be notified once the Pass is verified, if the application is rejected, you may re-apply by making the requested changes. Verification usually takes about 24 hours during working days.

Go to the "My Tickets" menu and complete the payment.
Your Pass is now ready to use.

How to Use:

Go to the "My Tickets" Menu,
On your BEST Pass click "Use Now". Ensure that Bluetooth is turned on which ensures smoother usage.
Tap your device on the conductor's ticketing machine.
You should hear a beep once the pass is validated.
If the pass is not recognized, "Tap here" option, and click "USE QR Code".
The conductor shall scan the Dynamic QR to validate the pass.

Unvalidated trips (Activated but not used) will be refunded back to the pass for future usage.

Using a Mobile pass is very convenient since there is no hassle of carrying change.
The subsidized plans provide major savings on every trip.
No need to stand in queues to get this pass physically printed or recharged.
This type of pass can optionally also be loaded directly to the Chalo Card instead of using the app, It's up to the user's choice.
