Jio Saavn in 2026 — Worth the Price?

Overview:

For the last two months, I've been using Jio Saavn for streaming music, and I really enjoy it. Previously, I kept switching between Spotify and YouTube Music, and I've also experimented with Apple Music. So, what's my opinion? Is Saavn underrated in 2026, or is it simply an outstanding music streaming service? Read my review to find out.

Before we delve into this review, it's important to consider the cost of using these services optimally, as the free plan does have limitations. Personally, I dislike advertisements on any service I use, and I certainly wouldn't want them interrupting my music listening experience. Additionally, I appreciate when audio plays at maximum quality, which is far more soothing than a low-quality version.

Alright, if you examine the chart above that compares the pricing of different plans from leading music streaming services, you'll notice that Saavn offers the most affordable plans. Additionally, it's evident that Apple and YT Music have maintained competitive pricing, staying relatively close to each other and slightly higher than Saavn's rates.

Spotify, in contrast, has significantly altered its pricing strategy and increased its prices. They are essentially charging more due to their advantage of having a vast library and a large consumer base. Additionally, Spotify has discontinued their Duo and One-day/One-week plans. These short-term plans were convenient for hosting parties when temporary ad-free music was needed. Saavn, however, still offers a One-day plan.

Since Saavn offers the lowest prices, what exactly does it provide? Allow me to explain.

Jio Saavn Mobile App Interface

The app and user interface is quite clean, displaying the songs you frequently listen to right on the home page for easy access, similar to Quick Dial on YT Music. It also suggests various playlists tailored to your listening preferences, just like Spotify does.

Jio Saavn PC Web Interface

The search function is fast and learns your preferred songs, so they appear even before you finish typing their names. The library page displays your liked songs, albums, favorite artists, playlists, and more. Creating a playlist is straightforward and easy. The UI is consistent on Desktop as well, accessible through a web browser.

In conclusion, I found the UI to be good, but it didn't feel as intuitive and engaging as other apps I've used. It might not be as smooth or fast as other services, and this can be noticeable. However, it is simpler to understand, which is beneficial if you value simplicity. Overall, UI improvements could enhance its smoothness. Also, Saavn, please remove the "PRO" banner that appears every time I launch the app; it's annoying.

Music Experience:

Music Library:

The library mostly includes all the songs you might want to listen to, ranging from international KPOP hits to regional Indian tunes. I mostly listen to songs in English, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese. Yes, I know, that's quite a variety. This is because I grew up with English songs, used to watch anime, currently watch C Dramas, and want to watch K Dramas.

I've noticed an issue with Japanese songs, where the popular singer LiSA, known for her songs in various popular anime series like Demon Slayer, has had her artist page merged with another artist named Lisa. This was really disappointing since she is one of my favorite artists. Apparently, this issue has been ongoing for about two years.

Sound Quality:

The sound quality is excellent at 320Kb/s, especially noticeable when using earphones or devices with Dolby Atmos support. Although I'm not an audiophile and can't distinguish between the apps, and I only use one app at a time, though I can definitely hear the difference between a track played at 128Kb/s and one at 320Kb/s.

Other Features:

You can download songs for offline listening, and it functions effectively. The app suggests switching to a specific offline mode when you're not connected to the internet. Unfortunately, the app lacks lyrics, but some songs offer the music video if you're interested.

Conclusion:

Overall, Jio Saavn appears to be a solid music streaming app at an affordable price, providing most of the features that other apps offer. The user interface is straightforward and pleasant, though it can occasionally seem a bit outdated. You might need to navigate through various menus to find certain features, and the absence of lyrics is certainly a downside.

However, if you find the music you enjoy, appreciate the UI, and are okay with the lack of lyrics, the app is worth its price. You can always take advantage of the free trial before committing to a purchase, which is what I did. In general, I believe Saavn is underrated because many users are unaware of what it offers. If it meets your needs, you could save significantly compared to other services.
