Built in India, Powered by India: Madhav Sheth Unveils AI+ Phones

Overview:

NxtQuantum Shift Technologies launched two distinctive and budget-friendly phones with their brand Ai+ - Pulse and Nova 5G. These phones are reasonably priced and emphasize enhanced privacy control. Founded by Madhav Sheth, who brings nearly twenty years of leadership experience in the global smartphone and technology sector. He previously led Realme and Honor in India. The smartphones appear to be quite unique and come with impressive specifications. Read more to find out.

Specifications:

Design and Build:

The design of both phones is distinctive, particularly the Pulse. They feature a matte finish and a dual camera setup on the back. The power button is red, blending seamlessly with the design. Both the power and volume buttons are located on the right side. At the bottom, you'll find the Type-C port, speaker grille, microphone, and 3.5mm jack, while the SIM card slot is on the left. Neither phone includes a secondary noise cancellation microphone. The SIM slot is a triple card slot, allowing the use of 2 SIMs and a microSD card simultaneously.

Both the phones come in 5 Colour Variants to suit each consumer's taste. The Colours are - Black, Pink, Green, Purple and Blue, yes, it's that simple! No confusing colour names like Forest Green or Ocean Blue.

Processor and RAM-ROM:

The Pulse is equipped with a Unisoc T615 Processor, while the Nova 5G features a Unisoc T8200 Processor. Both processors are quite capable for daily tasks and offer efficient power usage. The T615 operates at 1.8GHz and achieves an AnTuTu score exceeding 300k. In comparison, the T8200 runs at 2.3GHz and has an AnTuTu score of over 510k. Techno Ruhez conducted a CPU Throttling test, yielding positive results. Both devices come with LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.2 Storage. However, we believe that the Nova 5G would have been more competitive and powerful if it included LPDDR4X RAM considering its price.

Display:

Both phones feature a 6.74-inch HD+ display, with the main difference being that the Pulse model has a TFT display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Nova 5G model boasts an IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both phones offer an adaptive refresh rate. The displays have a brightness level of 450 nits, ensuring decent visibility both indoors and outdoors. Both the phones feature a waterdrop notch. Overall, Ai+ has delivered quality displays for the price, particularly in terms of refresh rate.

Software:

Both phones are equipped with NxtQuantum OS, described by Ai+ as "the country's first sovereign mobile operating system." This OS is built on the latest Android 15 software. Many tech reviewers have noted that the software is very responsive, with almost no lag during initial testing, indicating that it is well-optimized for the hardware. However, there is no information available regarding future software updates, which raises some doubts.

The key feature of this phone is its focus on privacy. Ai+ claims that any data collected on this device is securely stored on Google Cloud Servers in India, approved by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). There is no foreign routing, no silent tracking, and no ambiguity. The phone includes a privacy dashboard that lets you manage certain privacy settings. Ultimately, only time will reveal how effectively privacy is maintained. Another main highlight is that this phone comes with 0 Bloatware, which is quite relevant on phones in this price range.

Camera:

Both phones feature a dual camera setup, including a 50MP main sensor and a CIF clarity sensor. According to tech reviewers, the cameras capture decent to good quality photos, which is expected in this price range. The selfie camera has a 5MP sensor and also takes decent photos. The key difference between the two phones' cameras is that the Pulse can only record videos up to FHD (1080P) 30FPS, while the Nova 5G can record up to 4K (2160P) 30FPS, marking a first for this segment.

Battery and Charging:

Both phones come with a 5000mAh Battery, which provide great battery backup as per tech reviewers. Both the phones support 18W fast-charging however the Pulse only comes with a 10W charger in the box. Overall, the battery efficiency is quite good and will last you about 2-3 days on everyday usage.

Other:

Overall, Ai+ states that their phone is made completely or mostly in-house in India, which may be true to an extent. However, at this point, it is almost not possible to completely manufacture a phone in India, as important components are manufactured outside India. In fact, for this phone, the chipset used is made by Unisoc, which is manufactured in China.

Ai+ is probably trying to source most of its components from India while relying as little as possible on components from China and other countries. However, this will take time. It is to be noted that Ai+ assembles its phones in Noida, which isn't their own; it's operated by United Telelink Limited, the same company that manufactured phones for the budget phone company Karbonn. A few people who tested their UI also found it to be similar to Flyme OS and Realme UI. There are speculations that this OS may have been made by an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), i.e., another company.

Final Verdict:

Overall, it's good to see Indian Smartphone companies emerging and trying their all to make their space in the market among other brands. Lava also seems to be doing well, slowly by slowly progressing. Although, the coming up of such brands always brings back bad memories of Indian companies that came up purely for profit and left abruptly, Namely Micromax, Dor TV, etc.

So, it will take some time for Ai+ to gain the trust of keen customers. The phone is value for money; the Pulse is priced at 4,999* and the Nova 5G at 7,999*, making it quite affordable for consumers who have a low budget and are looking for a good smartphone. This can help consumers shift from 2G to 4G without much investment. As we said, time will tell whether Ai+ lives up to their promises, especially about privacy and manufacturing in India. On the after-sales service side, the brand has established 250+ service centres in India, which can be located on their official website. The brand can also be contacted via phone and email.

We rate this phone 4.5/5, Good Build and Design, Processor, Display, ROM. RAM could be better, Software experience is good, but no information about software updates. We hope that Ai+ will stick to their promises and keep releasing good and competitively priced phones especially in other price segments such as under 15k.
